In semiconductor and power facilities, even trace ionic impurities can lead to product defects or equipment problems, so high-purity water is required. Water treatment ion exchange resins remove hardness components and ionic impurities from raw water to soften and demineralize it; strong acid cation and strong base anion exchange resins are combined, and a mixed-bed resin finally removes residual ions to produce pure and ultrapure water.

• Applications: Ultrapure water for semiconductor and LCD processes, boiler feedwater for power facilities
• Treatment method: Cation and anion resin combination followed by final polishing with a mixed-bed resin

The regenerant for strong acid cation exchange resins depends on the ionic form and application; regeneration restores exchange performance so the resin can be reused. During regeneration, the ions adsorbed on the resin are replaced again by the ions of the regenerant.

• For softening (Na form): Regenerated with refined salt (NaCl)
• For demineralization (H form): Regenerated with acid (HCl, etc.)
• Regeneration cycle: Determined by raw water hardness and TDS, throughput, and required water quality
